Bayleys Sheep Dog Trials raise record donation for The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter
Last month the National Equestrian Centre at Aratiatia hosted, for the second year running, the Bayleys Sheep Dog Trials. Sheep dog handlers from across the region gathered to compete and support the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter.
Over four days the Bayleys Sheep Dog Trials attracted a diverse crowd of spectators eager to witness the precision and agility of these highly trained dogs as they guided sheep through a course.
Local businesses, individuals and organisations rallied behind the event offering prizes, services and financial support to ensure its success. We are proud to announce that with their contributions, the hard work of volunteers and participants, we raised an incredible $30,000 for The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter.
Organized by Dave & Sue Schaw, and with the help of Yvonne Westerman at Bayleys Real Estate Taupo, the event was not only to celebrate the rural tradition of sheep herding, but also to give back to the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter, a cause that is close to organiser Dave Schaw.
Through entry fees, donations and sponsorships, the participants and attendees contributed to a fundraising effort that surpassed previous year’s total of $20,000. Dave Schaw would like to thank all the competitors and everyone who put hard work into making it a great success, alongside the sponsors who helped make this event possible.
Among the highlights were the final rounds of the trials, where Murray Child and his dog Bruce took out the Open Grade, Ruth Colman and her dog Pixie won the Intermediate Grade and our Maiden Grade winner was Harry Peacock with his dog Edge. Thanks to our Judge Merv Williams, this years winners have earned their names on the Bayleys Sheep Dog Trials honours board.
Looking ahead, the organisers are already planning for next year’s event, hopeful that it will continue to grow in both scale and impact. They celebrate a job well done and a testament to the belief that even the smallest gestures of kindness can make a difference.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for next year’s event; you don’t want to miss out!
