He Ahi | Stage One is blessed

The He Ahi Eco-Business Park in Taupō had a karakia ceremony last week to mark the start of earthworks for Stage 1. Located on 40 hectares of industrial land near SH1, the park is developed by He Ahi Limited Partnership and funded by the local Māori Trust, Te Pae o Waimihia, which represents six local hapū. The park aims to be a long-term investment for future generations.

The development, which began in May 2022 after He Ahi purchased the land from Contact Energy, includes sustainable features such as geothermal heat, renewable electricity, and eco-friendly infrastructure. The park will offer 13 sites in Stage 1, available for sale or lease by October 2025. He Ahi also completed a "Design and Build" project for its first tenant, TNUE, focusing on green technology.

The park is strategically located near Taupō CBD and existing businesses like Contact Energy, with heavy industry zoning. Te Pae o Waimihia has made a significant investment, and the Taupō District Council has also supported regional development with infrastructure upgrades.

He Ahi Eco-Business Park stands as a promising model of sustainable development, with its commitment to environmental protection, renewable energy, and local Māori investment. The park’s thoughtful design and eco-friendly features reflect a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes both economic growth and environmental responsibility. With strong community support, a strategic location, and a focus on future generations, the park is poised to become a key asset to the Taupō region, fostering innovation and sustainability for years to come.
